Philippines

Program: Lifelink has been finding adoptive homes for children from the Philippines since 1985 and has facilitated the adoption of over 200 Filipino children. We are an accredited Foreign Adoption Agency (FAA) licensed to work in the Philippines by the Intercountry Adoption Board of the Philippines (ICAB). Our adoptions are facilitated in the Philippines by the staff of The Parenting Foundation, located in Manila. Due to poverty and unplanned pregnancies, some Philippine children are abandoned or relinquished for overseas adoptions and placed in government or privately operated child welfare institutions.

Available Children: The children in need of families are one to 15 years of age. There are healthy children in need of families as well as children with correctable (i.e., cleft lip and palate, minor heart condition) and non-correctable (i.e., cerebral palsy, etc.) conditions. Many sibling groups are in need of adoptive families.

Eligibility: Single Woman who are open to adopting children six years of age or older, who have minor correctible medical conditions or difficult background information can be considered. Families who are eligible to adopt a child from the Philippines should be married at least three years, be a minimum of 27 years of age and at least 16 years older than the adopted child. Persons under 45 are eligible to adopt infants (up to 18 months), and persons over 45 are considered for children over 18 months. Prospective adoptive parents may each have one previous divorce. The Philippines prefers families who are Christian as religion plays an important role in their culture. No fertility requirements exist. Families should be open to a child of either gender.

The Adoption Process: The process of adoption through the Philippines takes approximately 18-44 months from application. Children arrive home approximately three to four months after the referral is received. At least one parent needs to travel to escort the child home and stay four weekdays in the Philippines. During the trip, staff from the Parenting Foundation will escort adoptive parents to receive their child and visit with the ICAB. Philippine adoptions are finalized in the United States after six months of post-placement visits. This involves four visits with a caseworker to discuss the child’s adjustment and progress as well as the family’s adjustment.
