Who are the children?

  • They are special needs children under 16 years of age.
  • Most are males or other children who have not been able to be placed with local families.
  • They have either been abandoned or orphaned at an older age.
  • They have health problems requiring special medical attention.
  • They have a record of delayed development.
  • They have mild or severe mental or physical disabilities or have parents who have drug dependence, a mental illness or mental disability.
Who can adopt?

While there might be some flexibility for families who are interested in providing a home for some children with certain disabilities, in general, applicants should be:

  • At least 25 years of age
  • Be in sound mental and physical health
  • Have at least 11 years of formal education
  • Be financially secure and have at least three years of a stable marriage
Time:

  • Families will have the opportunity to identify a child that is waiting for a family.
  • Families can also submit their application dossier for matching of an appropriate child.
  • Travel to Hong Kong occurs six to twelve months following the submission of the dossier.

Travel:

  • At least one parent is required to travel to Hong Kong where they will be assisted by staff from International Social Service Hong Kong Branch.
  • The trip will last about one week.

The Adoption Process:

  • Lifelink will conduct a home study of applicants and assist them in completing and submitting the necessary dossier documents that are required.
  • Licensure is necessary as the adoption is finalized in the United States.
  • During the waiting period, we will provide you with adoption training and information on the Chinese culture as we believe understanding these issues is an important facet of the adoption experience.
