Who are the children?

  • Both couples and singles are allowed to state a gender preference for their child.
  • Both baby boys and baby girls are typically 6-12 months at time of referral.
  • Occasionally, older children become available but this is not common.
  • Because there are usually more baby boys than baby girls available for adoption, the wait time for a girl referral is longer.
  • Typlcal current wait time for a boy is 7-9 months while the typical current wait time for a girl referral is 10-12 months.
Who can adopt?

Couples and single heterosexual women between the ages 25 and 50 qualify for healthy infants.  While there is no specific limitation on the number of children already in the family home, couples with 5 or more children in the family home will be considered by the IAD and the orphanage on a case by case basis.  Parents over 50 may adopt, but the likelihood of a child 12 months or older increases.  Health issues of adopting parents are considered on a case by case basis.  Your doctor will be required to submit a letter on your behalf.  Criminal history will also be considered on a case by case basis, but it is generally understood that no recent criminal history is best.
Travel:

After referral, families typically wait 1-2 months to travel to Vietnam if their child is in an orphanage in northern Vietnam, 3-5 months if their child is in an orphanage in southern Vietnam.  Families are not allowed to state a preference for a certain orphanage or area of the country.  At least one parent must travel for one trip of approximately 14 days.  Adopting parents travel to the province where their child resides to adopt their child and then to the U.S. Embassies in Ho Chi Minh City and/or Hanoi for their child's visa appointments.

Building Families Since 1895
Lifelink partners with Faith International Adoption (FIA), an accredited agency in Vietnam, to place Vietnamese children with Lifelink families.  Lifelink staff will assist you in completing your home study, preparing your dossier and meeting all other adoption requirements.  Dossiers are then sent to FIA who then submits it to the International Adoption Department in Vietnam.  FIA staff coordinates your adoption trip and guides you through the process while in Vietnam.
